Chickens

My Grandma Coates is so funny. She is always giving you advice or anything. We were at her house around the middle of June and she had tons of chickens running around her yard and she wanted to get rid of some of them so she sent home a mom and 3 chicks with us. They were so tiny and fast they were extremely hard to catch. When we caught the last one I opened my hands less than the size of a dime to show TaKara and it jumped out. Crazy! They were a week old at the time so we think they were born on June 16th. Now they are about 3 1/2 months old. When we brought them home they were so tiny the chicks could fit through chicken wire. They are way adorable though. I got online to a chicken forum called backyardchickens.com and posted a picture of them to find out what breed they are and discovered that one of the chicks is a rooster. He is very fiesty...when he got bigger he could kick anyone's butt. And they are called Old English Game Bantums/Bannies. They are a small breed of chicken. About half the size or smaller than the normal chicken. Their eggs are even half the size or smaller than a normal egg. They work real good if you need half an egg in a recipe. TaKara loves to feed and chase them. They have been a lot of fun to have.
