Fuzzy

We are officially potty training TaKara. Well for about a month or so now...I am not completely sure when we ran out of diapers and didn't buy anymore so we didn't really have much of a choice. But today she had an accident like always and she usually stands when she/I puts her tie-dyed padded underwear on but today she sat on the floor to do it by herself and instantly she stood up, start rubbing her bum, and said "oooooh fuzzy." She did this about 5 times before I figured it out...The carpet was fuzzy on her bum. I didn't know she even knew that word. I found it hilarious and had to share. Thanks for reading...have a great day!

Christmas Attire

My mom is an amazing seamstress!!! She made TaKara and me matching Christmas dresses. I am so lucky to have such a talented mom! We wore them to church today and tons of people commented on how pretty we looked. THANKS MOM!!! The pictures don't do them justice because Dale thought he was chopping our heads off so he didn't dare zoom in ;)

1st Present

Grandma & Grandpa Coates stopped by today to deliver our Christmas presents. They even let TaKara open her's. Now we will have to wait and see if the other presents survive till Christmas morning ;)
It had a ribbon tied around it so Dale got TaKara's scissors out so she could cut the ribbon off.
She had to open the whole present with the scirssors...she isn't very good so it took a long time. We will have to make sure and hide them Christmas Eve. It is a foam alphabet puzzle mat. She played with it for over an hour. The pictures are blurry because TaKara was moving around a lot...like any other 2 year old. And only half the image is there because the screen is broke and there is no peep hole so you just have to hope you are capturing what you are wanting to. So when we get around to buying another digital camera we will make sure that it has the screen on the back and also the window you look through like the old film cameras.

Denim Quilt

Tom is getting married on July 18th so we had the brilliant idea to make him a denim and bandanna quilt. It is from Prall and Mary but Margo and I volunteered to make it. I came up with the design. It is eight inch squares on point so they are diamonds instead of cubes, sewn together in diagonal strips. We started cutting and sewing the blocks together to make the top on May 28th. This part of the project took us only about 10-15 hours. Margo is more patient than me when it comes to sewing with little ones. Don't you love the new way TaKara likes to play with her blanket? Then, Marcy, Margo, and I went to my mom's house in St. George on June 11th and 12th and tied it together. It took us about 3 or 4 hours to just get it on the frames because the back was too little so we went and bought more fabric then it was too big. It turned out very pretty though. I am glad the first fabric didn't work because it was blue and the red looks a lot better. And we found out at the shower that Kait's favorite color is red. I finally took the time to trim the excess batting and bind it on June 23rd. Mary gave it to her at the shower (June 27th) rather than the wedding because she isn't very good at keeping secrets and we didn't want them to find out about it until we gave it to them. It is amazing that they didn't! Everyone at the shower was very impressed and flipping out their camera phones to take pictures of it. When Kait found out it was mostly made out of Tom's pants I thought she was going to cry. Tom told us today how nice it was and how much he likes it. I am really glad that they like it so much because you know after you put so much time and effort into something someone has no clue about you hope they love it ;)

Sunflower Dresden

Today we went to Ferron to Kait's bridal shower. I was in charge of the game. I asked Tom in advance 84 questions so when someone gave her a present they would read a question so her friends from Ferron could get to know Tom better. She answered about 40 of them and only got about a third right. It was really fun though. Tom's fiance...that is a funny word...loves sunflowers. They are having an outdoor wedding reception at her mom's friend's house and she has planted tons of sunflowers for it. So I decided to make them a wall hanging decoration for part of their present. I found a picture on the internet that I liked but I changed pretty much everything and created this...It turned out better than I expected because I have never done anything like that before. When I showed it to my mom she was surprised "how patient and talented I am." I gave it to Kait at her shower and the lady next to me/reception home owner said "I am quite artistic." When Kait opened it, I had the black cast iron rod to hang it on and it rapped separately. So she opened the rod first and was all confused. Then when she opened the wall hanging she said how beautiful it was but she had this confused look on her face. A couple of minutes later she said out loud..."I get it, you hang the decoration on the rod." Everyone busted up laughing...she is kind of a blonde HAHAHAThe flower took the most time and is my favorite so here is a zoomed in view.

Blanket

I have been pretty busy the last couple of months making a denim quilt for TaKara's twin big girl bed. We took the side off of her crib a few months ago so she can get in and out by herself and she is so much happier when she wakes up. Last week I went to St. George and my wonderful mom helped me tie it. I can't believe we found some variegated yarn that matched it perfectly. We had rubber fingers on our fingers so it was easier to pull the needle/yarn through and TaKara decided she needed some too.

This morning I finished binding it. Also there is a giant matching pillow...it is about 2' x 3'. I am so excited...it turned out better than I expected...since this is the first quilt I have ever made let alone pieced. TaKara is already in love with it ;)
